Are you interested in being part of reclaiming the narrative on violence against women for generations to come? African Women Australia Inc. is looking for people to join our project as participants, engaging in discussions in your state/territory that will explore the diverse experiences of Black women and their views on racism, gender inequality and violence against women.

This project aims to build an alternative narrative for addressing violence against women in the national context, cross-link ideas for structural change and build solidarity platforms that link to black women's experiences of violence against women, to other violent systems of oppression.

Funded by the Australian Government - Department of Health and Ageing - Health System Capacity Development Fund $87,859

Aim: To capacity build a team of Spokespersons and Advocates to: 1) Increase understanding of FGM and its consequences, 2) Increase support for women and girls affected by, or at risk of FGM and 3) Help communities to move towards abandonment of the practice.

Let me tell it my way: Human Rights Education Through Narratives

Funded by the Australian Government - Australia’s Human Rights Framework - Education Grants $109,035

Aims: 1) Conduct a ‘Train the Trainer’ Program on Human Rights for young women and support them in running training for their respective communities and 2) collect stories of African men and women about life experiences in settlement in Australia told through the conduct of the ‘Human Rights Courts of Testimonies’. Racism, Gender & Eliminating Violence Against African Women in Australia

Funded by Nosakhele Women’s Group/Masimanyane Women's Rights International (MWRI)/Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation - $82,000

Aims: 1) Build an alternative narrative for addressing VAWG in the national context, thus building thought influence through radical action in a transformative way and 2) Work with the Australian women's sector to find ways to articulate the issues through articulation of collective struggles, provide a route to shift the dominant narrative.
